Orlando IBEW and Miller Electric Land High-Rise Condo Project
June 13, 2005
Until recently, condominiums in Orlando, Florida were only a few stories in height.
Today, new ground is being broken by the city, the IBEW and Miller Electric with the construction of "The View," a 35-story condo project that will include retail shops. The $90 million, 900,000 square foot project, will include 375 condo units and an attached six-story parking garage.
Harry Brown, business manager/financial secretary of Orlando, Local 606, which will dispatch up to 50 IBEW members on the project, says, "We're enthusiastic about this step into the high-rise residential market."
Miller Electric's Vice President Ed Witt, Jr., says the six million dollar electrical contract will be "dynamic," due to the "unique" tunnel form construction.
Since walls between the condo units will be poured concrete, electrical work will be "on the critical construction path" for a longer period than on other jobs, he says. We have a lot of "different" jobs to complete. Sharing Brown's enthusiasm for future residential projects, Witt says, "A positive outcome will say a lot."
